When setting up a Windows 7 PC for the open wireless network then it is recommended that you establish a ‘build’.
A ‘build’ is usually an install that has a variety of free software and extras such as printer drivers that you can install onto the laptop via a memory stick. You can then use this ‘build’ whenever you need to reset a computer. XMA can install an agreed ‘build’ for approximately £5 per machine.
You must ensure that you either include in your build or install Anti-Virus software. There are some excellent free ones available such as Anti-Virus Guard. You must ensure that this is frequently updated. You can find out more by clicking here.
You should also ensure that a password is set up. Instructions on how to do this can be found by clicking here.
In order to manage their netbooks, the pilot at Gracemount is trialling a piece of software called ‘Log Me In’. You can find out more about it by clicking here.
