A coherent long-term vision will ensure that the investment in iPads is rewarded with a positive impact on learning and teaching.
Things to consider
There are many things you need to consider before making an iPad purchase for your educational establishment. See the document below for further details.
1:1 Projects Vs Using a Set of Shared iPads
In recent years we have developed a detailed toolkit to use when you are embarking on a 1:1 project. Through this toolkit we are sharing the expertise gained by working with schools across the city. You can view the toolkit and all the associated documents by clicking here. Alternatively, you can find out more about using a set of shared iPads here.
Purchasing and setting up iPads for educational use is a lot more complicated than purchasing and setting up iPads for personal use.
XMA have a government contract to provide tablets for schools through the National Framework Agreement. Purchasing iPads through them will get you the best price and include a 2 year extended warranty, so we would highly recommend that any purchases are made through them.
iPads being used in educational establishments in Edinburgh must be set up and monitored in a specific way. This process takes time, and a little bit of technical knowledge. Guidance on how to set up new iPads correctly can be found here.
We have also created a checklist for setting up and managing your iPads prior to distribution which can be found here.
